The result matters very little in preseason games but it was still very nice to see what should be the Habs’ second line this season really click. Josh Anderson scored a couple of goals, Christian Dvorak scored his first in the Red, White and Blue on heck of a passing play with the man advantage from Armia to Drouin to Dvorak who masterfully put it in. IT must be said that the refs were quite harsh on the Leafs early on when they gave them 4 penalties in a row, but on the bright side of things, it meant quality special practice for Montreal.
Jake Allen was the starting goaltender tonight and he was flawless, stopping the 15 shots he faced before being replaced halfway through by Kevin Poulin, who pretty much gift wrapped a goal to Toronto shortly after coming on. The other one was a legitimate goal though, with Marner setting up Brooks perfectly in the slot. Jonathan Drouin made a juicy turnover in the first frame but he then skated hard to come and fix his own mistake, the new Drou is looking pretty good so far. I must also mention Michael Pezzetta who also scored twice tonight and made a very good impression.
Kaiden Guhle once again showed that he is all in, he blocked a shot which visibly hurt him and jumped back up immediately to block another one. The young man showed poise and didn’t look out of place at all, the same cannot be said of Matias Norlinder though. Jake Evans got himself a couple of penalties putting his team down a man for 4 minutes, but the penalty killing units were on point. Brendan Gallagher who joined the group this morning wasn’t playing since it was his first skating session with the team. If all goes according to plan, he should take part to one of the two games against the Sens on Friday and Saturday.
As reported yesterday, Cole Caufield has an upper-body injury and Dominique Ducharme stated today that he should be out of action for about a week. As for Joel Edmundson, he should be back at practice shortly. The Habs won’t have a game until Friday so they should use the next 3 days to practice hard and do some fine tuning.
Le résultat n’a que peu d’importance lorsqu’il est question d’un match exhibition, mais c’était tout de même rassurant de voir ce qui devrait être la 2e ligne du CH vraiment cliquer. Josh Anderson a récolté un doublé et Christian Dvorak a marqué son premier dans l’uniforme du Bleu, Blanc, Rouge sur tout un jeu de passe en avantage numérique entre Armia et Drouin vers Dvorak qui a complété de main de maître. Je dois dire cependant que les arbitres ont été un tantinet sévère avec les Leafs leur donnant 4 pénalités consécutives. Cela étant, ça aura permis aux Canadiens d’avoir du temps de pratique de qualité des unités spéciales.
Jake Allen a joué la première partie du match et il a été irréprochable, arrêtant les 15 tirs auxquels il a fait face avant de céder sa place à Kevin Poulin. Celui-ci se sentait généreux et à fait cadeau aux Leafs de leur premier but peu de temps après avoir fait son entrée dans le match. Le deuxième but en était un beau par contre, une superbe passe de Marner dans l’enclave pour permettre à Brooks de faire bouger les cordages. Jonathan Drouin s’est rendu coupable d’un revirement juteux, mais s’est racheté en se repliant pour aller mettre des batons dans les roues à la contre-attaque, le Drouin nouveau semble prêt pour une bonne saison. Au final, Drouin a récolté deux mentions d’aide, Anderson 2 buts et une passe et Dvorak 1 but et 3 passes. Je devrais aussi mentionner Michael Pezzetta qui s’est aussi offert une soirée de 2 buts et à fait une très bonne impression.
Kaiden Guhle a une fois de plus fait preuve de détermination, réalisant un bloc douloureux avant de se relever instantanément pour en bloquer un autre. Ce soir, il avait l’air calme et à sa place, on ne peut pas en dire autant de Matias Norlinder toutefois. Jake Evans s’est mérité un 4 minutes de pénalité, mais les unités de désavantage numérique étaient en parfait contrôle et on étouffée la menace. Brendan Gallagher qui a rejoint le groupe ce matin n’était pas en uniforme puisque c’était sa première pratique avec l’équipe. Si tout se passe comme prévu, il devrait prendre part à l’un des deux matchs contre Ottawa vendredi et samedi.
Tel que mentionné hier, Cole Caufield est incommodé par une blessure au haut du corps et Dominique Ducharme a dit aujourd’hui qu’il devrait être absent pour environ une semaine. Quant à Joel Edmundson, il devrait être de retour aux pratiques sous peu. Les Canadiens n’ont aucun match d’ici vendredi, ils utiliseront donc les 3 prochains jours pour s’entraîner à fond et arriver à mettre tout le monde au diapason.
