Preseason Game 2 — Injury Update — Chayka Signs |
|
|
|
McNabb, Stone, and Theodore all left the game with injury two nights ago when the San Jose Sharks were in town. DeBoer updated today that Theodore is the only player who will be day-to-day and McNabb and Stone will be ready for action whenever they draw into the lineup next.
The Las Vegas Golden Knights will face off against the Colorado Avalanche tonight at 8pm mst. Here is a look at the lineup courtesy of Jesse Granger of The Athletic:
Marchessault—Karlsson—Smith
Dugan—Howden—Krebs
Carrier—Roy—Kolesar
Leschyshyn—Brown—Røndbjerg
Martinez—Pietrangelo
Hague—Cochran
DiLiberatote—Korczak
Brossoit
Four things to watch:
Dugan gets promoted
Jack Dugan is getting a look on the Golden Knights’ unofficial 5th line with Krebs and Howden. He pushed the pace last game and gave a beautiful set up pass to Paul Cotter who one timed it under the crossbar. His line mates had rougher games and are looking to rebound. Krebs made a brutal no look pass into the slot that was promptly one-timed past Thompson. Howden missed his coverage out front on the Sharks’ second goal. This will be an interesting line to watch tonight.
Roy sticking at center
We all saw how good Nicolas Roy can be in the center position last playoffs. It looks like DeBoer wants to keep him there. Tonight he’ll play down the middle between William Carrier and Keegan Kolesar. Most expect this to be the fourth line on opening night.
Korczak gets a look
Taken #41 overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, Korczak is a very interesting prospect to watch. He’s 6’4”, 190lbs and plays a very physical style. He had issues this season (15GP 3G 5A 9Pts) hitting the offensive levels he reached in the 19-20 WHL season (60GP 11G 38A 49Pts), but there is still a lot to like. At 20 he may return to the WHL or play in Henderson. This guy has the speed and size to compete. His two assists in 10 games in Henderson this year is more indicative of a packed roster with limited offensive opportunities. If he can bring that physical edge against stronger, more developed players will be something to watch
First start for Brossoit
GM Kelly McCrimmon signed goaltender Laurent Brossoit this offseason to a 2.325x2 contract — the first major payday for the career backup. If incumbent starter Robin Lehner stumbles or goes on LTIR this season; Brossoit will get a heavier workload than he has taken on in the past and it will important for him to establish himself as a steady backup in camp.
Yesterday defence prospect Daniil Chayka was signed to a three year entry level contract. Chayka has a lot of hype after a very strong 19-20 season. 56GP 11G 23A 34Pts. Last year was more of a run-around. The OHL cancelled their season, so Daniil went back to Russia to get ice time. He played in Russia’s equivalent of the CHL, AHL and NHL. His offensive production was underwhelming in that time primarily due to lack of opportunity. Pending unforeseen circumstances, Daniil will play in Guelph this year in the OHL and continue his development. His skating and reach make him a solid presence defensively and he makes a good first pass.
Have a great day,
