Unsurprisingly, the lines remained unchanged on team white with Gallagher still filling in for the injured Caufield on the top line, Poehling centering Lehkonen and Dauphin, Paquette centering Perreault and Belzile (on what appears to be the depth line) and Beaudin playing between Baddock and Vejdemo (the AHL line). On defense, the Romanov-Petry pairing was intact, while Kulak was with Fairbrother, Bisson with Xhekaj and Ouellet with Belpedio.
As for team red, it practiced straight after and there weren’t many changes to report there either. The “DAD” line was still intact (Drouin-Dvorak-Anderson, not sure this one will catch on), Harvey-Pinard still played alongside Evans and Armia, while the other 2 lines are clearly Laval bound. On D, Guhle was still with Savard, Chiarot rode with Golubef and Niku in alternance and Schueneman was with Wideman.
Dominique Ducharme fielded questions from the media after both practices and some interesting subjects were discussed. He explained that Carey Price had to take a couple of days off after his on-ice training to see if it created any swelling. From saying he wanted Price to play in at least an exhibition game, Ducharme was now answering questions about the possibility of starting the season without Price. Some things never change in Montreal and the quickness to panic is one of those things. Speaking of injuries, he’s still hoping that Edmundson will be back any day now but he seems to be up and down there days and he added that Mattias Norlinder had sustain a minor injury that would keep him out of action for a few days, meaning he will not be available for this weekend’s games.
As for Sami Niku, Ducharme says he is in the mix to earn a roster spot and confirmed that he would be in action against Ottawa on Friday. While there will still be 2 more preseason games before the end of training camp after the double-header with Ottawa this weekend, Ducharme confirmed that there would be significant cuts after those. Slowly but surely, the picture is starting to take shape… not the complete picture though with Byron, Hoffman, Price, Weber, Caufield and Edmundson still missing, but they’ll get there unfortunately, well…maybe not Weber, I guess.

Quant à l’équipe des rouges, elle a pratiqué après celle des blancs et encore là, il n’y avait pas grand-chose à rapporter. La ligne “DAD” était toujours intact (Drouin-Dvorak-Anderson, je ne suis pas certaine que ce surnom fasse long feu), Harvey-Pinard complétait toujours le duo Evans-Armia, alors que les deux autres trios semblent clairement destinés à Laval. À la défense, Guhle était toujours avec Savard, Chiarot patinait avec Golubef et Niku en alternance et Schueneman était avec Wideman.
Dominique Ducharme a répondu aux questions des médias après que les deux groupes se soient entraînés et quelques sujets d’intérêt ont été discutés. Il a expliqué que Carey Price avait dû prendre quelques jours de repos après ses entraînements sur glace question de s’assurer que ceux-ci n’avaient pas provoqué d’enflure. Après avoir dit en début de camp qu’il espérait que Price pourrait jouer l’un des matchs d’exhibition, Ducharme s’est retrouvé à faire face à des questions sur la possibilité que Price ne soit pas prêt pour le début de la saison. Certaines choses ne changeront jamais à Montréal et la vitesse à laquelle les gens sont prêts à enfoncer le bouton panic est l’une de celles-ci. Parlant de blessures, Ducharme aurait aimé qu’Edmundson soit déjà de retour avec le groupe mais il semble pris dans un cercle vicieux de bien se sentir une journée et de connaître une baisse de forme le lendemain. Enfin, Mattias Norlinder a subi une blessure mineure lors du match de lundi et ratera quelques jours, ce qui veut dire qu’il ne prendra pas part aux matchs de la fin de semaine.
Quant à Sami Niku, Ducharme dit qu’il est dans la lutte pour un poste dans l’alignement et qu’il serait en action vendredi contre Ottawa. Bien qu’il reste deux autres matchs d’exhibition avant la fin du camp après ceux de la fin de semaine, Ducharme a confirmé qu’il y aurait des coupures significatives après ceux-ci. Lentement mais sûrement, on commence à avoir une idée de qui fera l’équipe… on ne pourra pas avoir le portrait complet toutefois puisque Byron, Hoffman, Price, Weber, Caufield et Edmundson sont toujours hors-service, mais ils arriveront à rejoindre l’équipe éventuellement… sauf peut-être Weber je suppose.
