My 10 Wacky NHL Predictions (I really believe will happen)

1. The Western Conference Champions will be the Vancouver Canucks.
The Canucks have all the pieces and no one seems to remember how this team in the bubble playoffs went to the Conference Finals. Last year, with the pandemic, no team was screwed more and I truly feel we will see an evolution of this team beyond what we have seen to date. With Quinn and Pettersson signed and the additions of Garland and Ekman-Larsson this team is primed to take a much larger step than anyone seems to realize.

2. The Eastern Conference Champions will be the New York Rangers.
The regular season may still prove challenging to the Rangers as they get their focus together, but I am a huge believer in what Gerrard Gallant can do when given a young, fast team with firepower up front a stud goalie in net. Shesterkin is an absolute star. He is exactly the kind of goalie a team needs to be able to play Gallant’s style. The Rangers are going to be crazy tough to beat in the playoffs.

3. Ilya Sorokin will win the Vezina.
I am doubling down on this one, but I really believe it. A “Who’s Better” of “Sorokin vs. Shesterkin” article is in my pipeline. The quick answer is both are fantastic and both will soon be challenging for the top Goalie in the NHL spot. Russia is a ridiculous goalie factory right now.

4. Calgary Flames Andrew Mangiapane will be this year’s surprise scorer.
Mangiapane will finish with around 75 points and get serious consideration for Team Canada in the Olympics due to his fast start.

5. The Vegas Golden Knights will struggle and NOT win the Pacific
In fact the Pacific Division will surprise everyone and be way better than anyone is predicting at this point. People are ignoring Edmonton, Vancouver, Calgary, and even a scary LA…

6. Connor McDavid will hit 150 points.
It has been several years since we have seen a player in that realm. Connor will do it this year and lead all scorers by 40+ points.

7. The Capitals will miss the playoffs.
They are strong, but the division is younger and faster at this point. I could be horribly wrong about this one of course.

8. Auston Matthews will net 65 goals.
There is little doubt that he could do this. He already is a premier scorer and in the last shortened season was simply lights out.

9. Big name coach firing in November.
A coach will be fired around American thanksgiving DESPITE the fact his team is in the playoffs when he is let go. Who could I be talking about?

10. The NHL won’t go to the Olympics at the last second
I am already hearing rumblings. I don’t want this to be the case, as I am a HUGE fan of NHL players in the Olympics, but I am not ready to get too excited yet.
