The Carolina Hurricanes released their opening night roster today, which can be seen below.

Jack Drury and Eetu Makineimi have both been sent down to the AHL, after being listed on NHL.com’s version of the roster. Vincent Trocheck has also been activated and is listed on the roster.

So in net, we have no surprises, while all of the seven defensemen listed were locks for the roster as well (though I had predicted Max Lajoie being the eighth defender).

Up front, while 12 of the forwards listed don’t come as any surprise, Seth Jarvis has made the team. Jarvis was selected 13th overall by the Hurricanes last year and is still just 19 years old, so we’ll have to see whether he sticks in the NHL past the trial run. As a result of Jarvis taking the final spot, Josh Leivo was waived and sent to the minors.

Jake Gardiner has also been placed on long-term injured reserve, while Jamieson Rees has been placed on the injured, non-roster list.

So other than Jarvis, not many surprises here. Despite a strange offseason, the Hurricanes are still a very strong team on paper and it’ll be exciting to see what this group can do.
