The Los Angeles Kings revealed their opening night roster yesterday, which can be seen below.

FORWARDS (14): Lias Andersson, Viktor Arvidsson, Dustin Brown, Phillip Danault, Carl Grundstrom, Alex Iafallo, Arthur Kaliyev, Adrian Kempe, Anze Kopitar, Brendan Lemieux, Blake Lizotte, Trevor Moore, Vladimir Tkachev, Gabriel Vilardi

DEFENSE (7): Mikey Anderson, Tobias Bjornfot, Drew Doughty, Alex Edler, Matt Roy, Sean Walker, Christian Wolanin

GOALIES (2): Cal Petersen, Jonathan Quick

INJURED RESERVE (2): Andreas Athanasiou, Olli Maatta

INJURED/NON-ROSTER (1): Akil Thomas

To start, Cal Petersen and Jonathan Quick are back in net. On the blue line, six defenders were no surprise to see listed, while Christian Wolanin taking the seventh spot isn’t overly surprising, we Olli Maatta on injured reserve to start the year.

Up front, Andreas Athanasiou joins Maatta on injured reserve, leaving 14 other forwards on the roster. About 10 of those players were at least fairly regular members of the lineup last season, with Lias Andersson and Brendan Lemieux getting spots as well.

The two notable additions are Arthur Kaliyev and Vladimir Tkachev. Kaliyev spent last season with the AHL’s Ontario Reign but is still just 20 years old, while Tkachev is 26 years old and comes over from the KHL. Decisions will have to be made once Athanasiou is ready to go, but we’ll have to see what the plan is for Kaliyev and Tkachev.

Two omissions from the roster are Jaret Anderson-Dolan and Austin Wagner, both of whom spent the majority of last season with the Kings but were sent to the minors over the last number of days. Despite the crowded forward group, it wouldn’t be surprising to see one or both of them make their way back up at some point this season.

The Kings have a young team and with many other prospects pushing for spots in the forward group, it may not be long before we see even more roster moves.
