It’s been way too long since the Bell Centre was alive with the sound of a capacity crowd, had the building been full last season for the Cup run, it would have been absolutely rocking. The fans couldn’t be there though and tonight, they will finally be allowed to cheer on their team and let the players know how much they missed them. Montreal has always had a knack for ceremonies, so I expect they’ll go all out tonight when proper NHL hockey finally returns to the city.
Of course, they’ve lost their first 2 games of the season, but I don’t expect that will prevent the fans from cheering at the top of their lungs when public announcer Michel Lacroix introduce every player. I believe Jonathan Drouin will get quite the warm welcome and if I’m the Habs, I still introduce Carey Price even if he’s not there. Give him a great big ovation to watch when he’s up for it.
Prior to the game, there will be a tailgate in the Rio Tinto Court by the Bell Center; activities, games, pics and autographs with Canadiens alumni, the Habs are going all out to give the fans as close an experience to pre-pandemic times and it will feel pretty good!
Tonight, the Canadiens will take on the New York Rangers who have yet to win a game this season, losing one in regulation and the other in overtime. Panarin has been held to a single point so far and both goalies have got save percentages in the .800. Perhaps this is what Ducharme’s men need to be able to break through offensively…time will tell. We’ll see if the new morning skate lines can need them a much-needed energy boost.
Ça fait beaucoup trop longtemps que le Centre Bell n’a pas vibré au son d’une foule de 21 000 personnes, si l’aréna avait été plein lors du parcours de l’équipe vers la finale de la Coupe Stanley, l’édifice aurait littéralement explosé. Les fans ne pouvaient y être, mais ce soir, ils pourront finalement encourager leur équipe et faire voir aux joueurs à quel point ils leur ont manqué. La plus vieille franchise de la ligue a toujours su faire de belles cérémonies d’ouverture, alors je m’attends à quelque chose de gros ce soir pour le retour officiel du Hockey à Montréal.
Bien sûr, les Habs ont perdu leur 2 premiers matchs de la saison, mais je ne crois pas que cela les empêchera d’applaudir et d’encourager à tout rompre quand Michel Lacroix présentera chacun des joueurs. Attendez-vous à voir Jonathan Drouin recevoir un accueil des plus chaleureux et si c’était ma décision, je présenterais Price même s’il n’est pas là, question de lui donner une superbe ovation à regarder quand il sera prêt.
Il y aura un party d’avant-match dans la cour Rio Tinto à côté du Centre Bell; des activités, des jeux, photos et autographes avec d’anciens Canadiens, les Habs feront le maximum pour donner aux fans une expérience presque prépandémique et il y a fort à parier que ce sera apprécié.
Les visiteurs ce soir seront les Rangers de New York qui n’ont pas gagné en 2 matches cette saison, perdant un match en temps régulier et un autre en prolongation. Panarin a été tenu à un seul point et leurs deux gardiens présentent un pourcentage d’arrêts dans les .800. Peut-être que c’est ce dont les hommes de Ducharme ont besoin pour retrouver leur offensive…le temps nous le dira.. Nous verrons si les nouvelles lignes d’avant-match donneront une infusion bien nécessaire d’énergie,
