The Carolina Hurricanes picked up another win last night, beating the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-1 and improving to a 4-0 record to start the year.

It’s been a pretty excellent start for the team so far. They’ve outshot their opponents in three of the four outings, while also playing three of their four games on the road. They’ve also outscored their opponents by a huge 18-7 margin in those games.

So far, Carolina’s top forwards have been great, with Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov, Teuvo Teravainen and Vincent Trocheck all with at least two goals and five points. Secondary scoring has also been present, with Jordan Staal registering four points, Jesper Fast already at three goals, and contributions coming from Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Martin Necas as well.

On the blue line, Carolina’s new defenders have been working out well. Ethan Bear is proving to be a really solid addition who could potentially fit with the Hurricanes for a long time to come, while Tony DeAngelo already has four assists and Ian Cole adds some depth as well.

Frederik Andersen has also been excellent for the Hurricanes. He’s played all four games, allowing just seven goals and managing a .944 save percentage. I have to say, I was extremely critical of the decision to bring in Andersen and trade Alex Nedeljkovic (and four games isn’t going to change that), but Andersen has been great early on.

We’re just four games in but the Hurricanes have looked very strong so far this season. They’ll be at home for four games over the next week, facing the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks and Arizona Coyotes, and there’s no reason to believe they can’t pick up at least six points from the set of games.
