Wings vs Panthers pregame - Panthers move on from coach Q
Summary - That was Detroit’s best full game of the season in so many ways. The engagement, the speed, the defensive commitment and absolutely no quit. Another night Detroit found a way to get to overtime after being down by 2. The cycle with 6 minutes left of Detroit stuck in their own zone and blocking puck after puck was inspired. This was an intense competition.
You can play a really good game and still lose. It stings, but the overall performance level was so high that Detroit should feel good about it. Bobrovski is having a redemptive start to the season and the Panthers have it together in a big way.
Detroit kept Florida from scoring 4, and they’re alone in that so far. The team raised their compete level as high as I can remember. I just don’t see too many negatives right now. I’d written just a couple of blogs ago that I’m not as concerned about wins/losses as I am with forward motion. Is the team improving, and are they coming together? Tonight certainly seemed like the answer to both of those is yes.
Very happy for Suter, his defense and offense should be a boost to him and his line. The 2nd line is starting to feed off of each other a bit. Maybe that’s the nice part of having a game tomorrow night. If Detroit can carry this same effort against Toronto, there could be an equally good match.
Most of you know that I can be fairly critical. I’m really happy with the game I saw tonight. The scoreboard doesn’t tell the whole story this time. In many ways for the club, this was a “W”.
First Period:
Bertuzzi with a diving SOG in the first minute. Never quits on a play
Second Period:
Detroit gets on the board as Stecher shoots a solid shot off the boards for a tip by Gagner. Detroit playing hard, but until that Bob was just unstoppable. 2nd assist goes to Stephens:
Gagner goal:
Third Period:
With 2:41 to go Pius Suter was able to tip a Moritz Seider shot from the point and tied the game at 2 apiece. Lots of action and some fantastic play back and forth.
