Just wanted to add this. To me, this is one of the greatest shifts we’ve seen in the rebuild. Guys giving everything to stay in a game:

Most of us knew it was a matter of time before Veleno got his first chance to skate with the Wings. The speedy forward was called up for Detroit’s mini Canadian swing as they play Toronto tonight and Montreal on Tuesday.

Tyler Bertuzzi isn’t eligible to play, and now it looks like Adam Erne is a game time decision (with either an upper, mid or lower body injury, though not ruling out the idea of upper middle or lower middle). If Erne can’t play, it could indeed be a big opportunity for Veleno.

No idea where he’ll slot in. Larkin and Raymond are playing really well so whoever gets that third spot will need to be ready. Veleno leads the Griffins in goals (3) and shots (15) over 5 games. His defensive play is still his biggest issue. If he can lock down that part of his game, he’ll be that much closer to a permanent roster spot.

Toronto is a team that can roll over you if the scoring is clicking. We’ll see how Detroit fares just 24 hours after their last contest, an OT thriller against Florida.
