The Carolina Hurricanes have picked up three wins over the last four days, extending their undefeated streak to eight games to start the season.

Thursday’s game against the Boston Bruins was a good test for the Hurricanes. It was a really tight matchup between two good teams and Frederik Andersen had to be great for Carolina at times. While the Hurricanes may have been outplayed at points, it was a really good game overall and Carolina managed to pick up a 3-0 win.

The Hurricanes followed up the next night with a 6-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks, where they pulled away early, with six goals in the first 27 minutes of the game. While they did play well at even strength and were pretty dominant offensively, Carolina took far too many penalties, giving Chicago a ridiculous eight power play opportunities. Regardless though, Antti Raanta got his first win with the team and the Hurricanes continued on their winning streak.

Then this afternoon, the Hurricanes had a great game against the Coyotes, where the score should’ve realistically been worse than 2-1. They outshot Arizona by a margin of 39-23 and completely outchanced them - but a great performance from Karel Vejmelka kept the game close. Seth Jarvis also made his NHL debut in Nino Niederreiter’s absence and was involved, looking very good overall.

Needless to say, but there’s been a lot working for the Hurricanes early in the year. Offensively, their top forwards have been great, and secondary scoring hasn’t been an issue. A key is that in a lot of the games so far, a good portion of them have been played in the other team’s end.

Carolina is also getting contributions from the defense group, which could’ve been a concern after Dougie Hamilton’s departure. Tony DeAngelo in particular already has two goals and nine points in just eight games, though Jaccob Slavin and Brett Pesce have notably been putting up points as well.

Then obviously one of the stories for the team has been Frederik Andersen, whose save percentage sits at .956, after allowing just nine goals through his first seven games. He’s been outstanding so far.

The Hurricanes have been dominant early on in pretty much all aspects and will have a good opportunity to improve to 9-0 on Wednesday, as they face the Blackhawks once again.
