Previous blog: Left in the cold..not for too much longer

It’s a great feeling when the excitement around a player continues to be confirmed. Last year, Seider was defenseman of the year in the SHL playing most of the year at 19. He was named the elite prospect (which some people think is a fake award, but I’m not among them). The big right side defenseman is logging more than 22 minutes per night and scored the most assists in a calendar month as a rookie since Pav. He also has the most assists EVER as a defensive rookie.

Between he and Raymond, the rookies have been generating a lot of buzz for the team. I think the two should have a gentleman’s bet on who sells more merch this year. Yzerman’s decision to let both play on the roster in top roles has been a Godsend to fans hungry for the rebuild to hit the next phase. Congrats to Seider for continuing to meet and exceed expectations.

Before I get to my write up, Karine Hains was kind enough to give me some thoughts about Montreal’s struggles so far this year:

TBH, I think losing the depth at center is what hurts the most, without Danault and KK, Suzuki is now 1st center but he's not ready for those tough match-up. Bergevin thought he'd lose Danault but KK was a curveball from the Canes and he had to go out and get whatever was available as a replacement. That ended up being Dvorak, but Ducharme is now realizing that he's no 2nd line center and he's decided to go back to a player he played at center in junior level, Jonathan Drouin. Even though his first season at center with the Habs was an absolute disaster. As for Caufield, he needs to get a bit of confidence back so the AHL is a good idea especially since the Canadiens can't seem to put their act together.

You might not be able to watch Gally and Petry, both are game time decisions because of injuries...and since Paquette got a 2 game suspension, they'll need to call up someone else if Gally isn't good to go... check my blog for more.

On the Wings, I'm looking at their season start and place in the standing with jealousy to be honest, I didn't expect them to do so well...

Thank you so much Karine! Perrault had a hat trick last time and the Habs manhandled Detroit. The team is down several players, including Perrault, and Detroit has been playing hard and fast. Hopefully we’ll see a stronger showing this time out.

Montreal will be getting a boost soon, as Carey Price is nearing a return. He’s got the ability to inject life into the team. The first 10 game segment has been so strange for some teams. Chicago has just one win, Montreal has 2 so far. Carolina and Florida are undefeated. Buffalo came out strong, and Detroit is getting some positive feedback for sure. It’s a long season, and some things are bound to change.

What I appreciate about Detroit right now is the continued push. Even down a couple of goals, the team keeps going. In the past few seasons, you’d watch the roster just deflate once things took a turn. The mix of young players who are excited to be here, leadership in Dylan Larkin who wants to play for something, and turn over keeps reenergizing the players. For the most part, the “comfort era” is long gone. Everyone is on a year to year tryout under Yzerman.

While I feel optimistic, I also think this could be a “trap” game. If the team doesn’t start on time and keep pressuring, it could be a step backward. This is still a team that needs to take it one game at a time while they grow and develop.
