Carey Price has released a statement in which he states that asking for help is what we teach our kids to do and that it was his turn to ask for some when he entered the player assistance program. He added that over the years, he had let himself get to a very dark place and that he neglected his mental health for year. Suffering from a substance abuse problem, he decided to get the help he needed by entering the program.
Understandably, he says that all he can do is take things one day at a time and that consequently, it’s hard to say when he’ll be ready to get back in the line-up and that he appreciate the privacy and support he has been afforded.
The statement is short and doesn’t elaborate on what kind of substances he was using, but it should nonetheless be sufficient to appease some of the media members who have been demanding that like Drouin, Price explain himself. To be honest, I could have done without the explanation, the man is not a robot and he wasn’t doing well, needed to step back, that’s all I needed.
Now, you can bet there will be plenty of speculation about what kind of substance he was abusing and this kind of thing. I just hope that he takes all the time he needs and doesn’t rush back in since this season really is a write-off.
