Summary - if Jake Allen hadn’t gotten injured (inadvertently. I don’t think Larkin meant to hurt him as he was taken down by Petry) I don’t know if Detroit would have made it to O.T. Tonight. Especially in the third, Montreal was dominant for long stretches.

That’s the bounce in hockey. One night you fall victim to a hot goalie, and the next you’re saved by one. Nedeljkovic was outstanding. Dylan Larkin scored twice from a tight angle for the first and third (which was the OT winner). Suter’s line tallied the second. Both Raymond and Seider added points to their totals.

Larkin’s goal was his 300th career point (congrats). It was also shot from below the red line. Impressive. His speed and stamina paid off as he had 2 successive end to end rushes (scoring on the second). He may well have skated 600 plus ft in OT.

It’s always good to get a win. There were a lot of positives. However, Montreal brought a superior effort tonight. I’m sure they’re feeling that Ned robbed them on this one (he did). It’s really good to see Nedeljkovic settle in and find his groove. His groove is making a lot of timely saves and some nice puck handling.

Detroit’s start on the season continues to bring positive strides to the rebuild. The team keeps coming back and trying to find a way. The lethargic era of the rebuild is gone (thankfully). The room wants to succeed and wants to stick up for each other.

Seider and Raymond continue to impress. They find a way to make plays even as opponents are closing in on them more and more. Zadina is working (had 4 shots on goal) and it will pay off. Things are heading in a positive direction.

I hail Ned as the top star tonight, for sure. His confidence and creativity are a welcome addition to the blue paint.

First Period:
No goals for Detroit

Second Period:

At 2:36, Larkin shoots the puck from just in front of the red line and it goes in top corner. Z used to shoot from there (or behind it). Off a simple rush with Hronek, and the fans are back on their feet. Bert with the assist.

Larkin’s tight angle shot:

Just under a minute later, Suter scores after a nice pass from Fabbri. Wow. 2nd line continuing to come together. Another assist for Seider.

Suter’s goal:

*Stephens crashed into the boards at a high rate of speed, scary. That’s how you blow an ACL/MCL, knee or ankle. Out for the rest of the game.

Third Period:
No Detroit goals

Overtime:

Wings opt for Fabbri, Rasmussen and Leddy to start OT. A horrible change for Detroit and a poor decision by Fabbri was nearly disastrous early on. Ned saved the day. Larkin had two successive rushes after the resulting faceoff and scored on the second. First, he passed to Raymond whose shot went wide and then back to Larkin who scored from very close to the same spot as his opening tally.

Larkin’s OT winner:
