Next Game vs Sharks

The last time the Blackhawks and Sharks squared off was on March 11, 2020, and was the last game before the pandemic shut down the NHL and the rest of the world. At least that last match was a happy memory with a 6-2 victory. Nicolas Beaudin made his NHL debut with 17:01 TOI.

Jonathan Toews

This was Jonathan Toews' second maintenance day this season. Nothing should really be read into him taking the day off. He deserves it even if it's to get his mind off of his disallowed goal from Friday's Blues game to extend his goal-less drought to 20 games to start 2021-22.

--

Duncan Keith

Duncan Keith has been out of the Oilers lineup with an upper-body injury since Tuesday. He's been fairly durable in his career but missed 2 games last season and 9 the season before. So far in 18 games this season, he has a goal plus 4 assists and is a -1 in 20:00 average TOI.

Brent Seabrook

Brent Seabrook's record for most career shot blocks wasn't mentioned much but it's no surprise that he held the #1 spot until Kris Russell surpassed him yesterday. All of those blocked shots -- amongst other defensive heroics -- likely contributed to Seabrook's degradation.

--

Adam Gaudette

Also no surprise is Adam Gaudette getting claimed off of waivers by the Senators. As mentioned in yesterday's blog, it's no major loss to the Blackhawks. However, it's a shame he wasn't given more of a chance to prove himself in Chicago under either Jeremy Colliton or Derek King.

Game Notes

* Chad Krys returned to the starting lineup after being scratched for 5 games; while he needs to refine his defensive reads and gain more strength -- like Ian Mitchell and Beaudin -- he's arguably the slickest passer on the team.

* Jakub Galvas scored his first pro goal in North America and kept cementing his status as Rockford's most reliable defender; his style is somewhat a hybrid of Niklas Hjalmarsson and Johnny Oduya.

* Josiah Slavin drew multiple penalties in last night's game and continued to prove himself as a steady penalty killer who is also dangerous with generating short-handed chances.

* Brett Connolly left the game after supposedly colliding with a Wolves player (out of the camera's view); he was favoring his right knee and needed to be helped off the ice by Krys and a trainer.
