What a game last night for the New Jersey Devils!

After a lackluster effort last Friday against the Nashville Predators, New Jersey played with much more energy and did not start the game flat and sluggish.

“Total team effort,” Devils forward Andreass Johnsson said. “We gave them a little opportunity at first to come back in the game, but we stayed with it and we were patient and we scored a couple of huge goals in the end.”

The No Mercy Line (Johnsson-Mercer-Bratt) has been the most consistent line all season and last night, they were involved with four out of five goals. Johnsson now leads the Devils with nine goals and 17 points while fellow line mate Jesper Bratt leads the team in assists with 12.

Dougie Hamilton scored his 6th goal of the season in the first period. So far, Hamilton has lived up to the hype and monster contract that he signed during the offseason. Most importantly, he is having fun and has been very productive offensively.

How about Nathan Bastian scoring his first goal back as a Devil since being claimed off of waivers? Interesting to see him and Mason Geertsen play the wing with Michael McLeod. Could be a combination that Lindy Ruff could use against physical teams in the future.

Hughes Inching Closer

Looks like Jack Hughes is coming back very soon. The Devils went 7-6-4 with 18 points without Hughes in the lineup. When he comes back, it will change the dynamics of the top six forwards lineup and for certain give the Devils four lines to roll out each game to keep their opponents on their heals.

Let’s just make sure that Hughes is 100% before putting him back out there!
