Previous post: Highway Robbery - Nedeljkovic steals 2 points on the road

Huge congrats to Lucas Raymond for winning rookie of the month for November. Apparently, Seider edged Raymond out for October. This month, Raymond edged Nedeljkovic out. The Wings are the first team to have back to back “rookies of the month” since Marner and Matthews did it in Toronto. Not bad.

Game Summary:
Detroit’s Overtime period was fairly strong, possession wise. A nightmarish turnover situation involving Rasmussen almost ended the game in Seattle’s favor. However, for most of the extra frame of 3 on 3 hockey the Wings were in control. Unfortunately, they could not convert.

The shootout saw Larkin and Erne score in nearly the same spot. Stick side, Erne’s shot a bit higher than the Captain’s. Raymond hit a post on his attempt. It was a nice win to get for Greiss who just doesn’t seem to get much goal support.

Fabbri was flying with his temporary promotion to the top line. He really skates hard and opens up the ice. Bertuzzi was out via protocol but will hopefully be back soon. Larkin and Seider both had 2 assists. Raymond continues his steady streak. Fabbri got on the board, rewarded for his hard play.

Winning 4 straight feels like another move forward. Detroit was much more on par with Seattle than with Boston (both wins) as far as effort and execution. Some D zone miscues ended up burning the Wings. Still, it seems like this team continues to move forward gaining confidence. When Larkin hits the ice it’s akin to a record player being bumped up in speed. Everything feels faster. More and more, it feels like the Captain has grown into his role as the face of this team.

The rookies continue to delight fans. They’ve made sizeable contributions in the roles they earned for themselves. It’s an exciting development as you’re starting to see what a future contender will look like.

As for me, most of you know that I am winding down my time (for now) as a blogger. My head injuries and issues are making it harder and harder to watch the game. While work is being done behind the scenes, it is an honor to try and keep up with game days right now. All of you have been a huge blessing, and Eric and Ek have given me an opportunity I never thought I’d have. The past 3 seasons have been amazing. Thank you all.

First period Wings’ goals:

*Raymond nearly had his 10th of the season on a 4 on 4 at 17:45. Was challenged by Seattle for being offside and the challenge was upheld.

No Wings goals in the first.

Second period Wings’ goals:

From the end of the first into the first 5 minutes of the second, it felt like Detroit and Seattle were trading power plays like my elementary school traded Garbage Pail Kids cards. Detroit finally landed a “Foul Phil” as Fabbri cashed in. Larkin was creating opportunities (even hit a post), but a bizarre deflection ended up on Fabbri’s stick about 5 ft from the net and he buried it. Suter and Larkin may well have assists on this one.

Fabbri’s power play tally:

Seattle struck twice after Detroit opened the scoring. With around 2 minutes left in the period, Namestnikov drove into the zone, shot the puck, it bounced and he hit it again mid-air and floated over the Seattle goaltender. It looks like it may have hit Rasmussen, but not sure. For now, Namestnikov has his 8th with assists for Oesterle and Seider.

Namestnikov’s 8th of the season:

Third period Wings’ goals:

At 6:30 Raymond got his waived off goal back. I think I counted 3 line changes on a continual series of play up and down the ice. Fabbri/Larkin/Raymond got together in their own zone. Fabbri skated hard into the offensive zone. The puck made its way to Larkin whose shot on net was blocked. Raymond grabbed the puck and spun and shot. A beautiful look for number 10 on the season for the NHL rookie of the month. Seider got his second assist of the night

Raymond’s 10th (part 2)

Overtime:

No goals scored

Shootout:

Fabbri - miss
Donato - miss
Larkin - scores - skated in, slowed down, went stick side
McCann - miss
Raymond - miss (off the pipe)
Donskoi - scores
Erne - scores - similar to Larkin goal, high stick side
Weinberg - miss
