The San Jose Sharks announced yesterday that they’ve signed forward Brandon Coe to an entry-level contract. The deal carries an $850,833 cap hit, according to CapFriendly.com.
Coe was selected by the Sharks in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Draft, where the team traded a 2021 third-round pick in order to select him. After playing 17 games with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda in the 2020-21 season, Coe has returned to junior hockey for his overage year. This season, he’s been dominant with the OHL’s North Bay Battalion, with 14 goals and 46 points in 24 games, as he currently leads the league in points.
The forward is still likely a few years off playing at the NHL level but considering he’s already 20 years old and stands at 6-foot-5 and 203 pounds, he could have an easier time making a permanent jump to professional hockey next year.
