The New York Islanders placed forward Anatolii Golyshev on unconditional waivers today, for the purpose of contract termination.

Golyshev was originally selected by the Islanders in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL Draft and signed with the organization back in March. He spent the beginning of this season with the AHL’s Bridgeport Islanders, scoring five goals and seven points in 15 games. He is now expected to return to the KHL.

There was some hype around Golyshev’s arrival, so his quick departure is somewhat disappointing. That said, he didn’t even get into games with the Islanders when they had multiple forwards in COVID protocol, so he clearly wasn’t very high on the depth chart.
