The Carolina Hurricanes picked up another win on their road trip, beating the Calgary Flames 2-1 in overtime last night.

Sebastian Aho opened the scoring about four minutes into the first period, tipping in a shot from Jaccob Slavin. The Flames had the better period, outshooting the Hurricanes and getting some decent chances (including a penalty shot for Noah Hanifin), but the Hurricanes took the lead into the intermission.

The Flames did tie the game in the second period, with Hanifin scoring off a seemingly harmless point shot that managed to fool Frederik Andersen. It was a better frame overall for the Hurricanes, limiting Calgary to just seven shots, but they also weren’t able to generate many chances themselves.

In the third period, on two different occasions it seemed like the Flames had taken the lead, only to have the puck cleared off the goal line at the last second. Neither team was able to break the tie though and the game went to overtime.

In the extra frame, Sebastian Aho was the hero for the Hurricanes, using his speed to drive to the net and slide the puck under Jacob Markstrom for his second goal of the game, securing the extra point for the Hurricanes.

While this win certainly wasn’t as dominant as their victory over the Jets earlier in the week, the Hurricanes have gone 2-for-2 so far on a fairly difficult road trip.

It was a really strong game for Frederik Andersen and despite giving up a strange goal, he made some key saves. The penalty kill also played a significant role in the win, as the Hurricanes managed to kill off all five penalties.

The Hurricanes’ next game comes tomorrow against the Edmonton Oilers, as the team tries to extend their winning streak to four games.
