The San Jose Sharks picked up a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars last night, improving to 2-1-0 through the first three games of their seven-game homestand.

The Sharks started a bit slow, giving up some pretty decent chances to Dallas off the rush. However, it was the Sharks who opened the scoring, as Timo Meier spun and threw the puck on net and it deflected in off Tomas Hertl, slightly changing the direction. The Stars pressed to even the game after that and ended up outshooting the Sharks by a huge 14-6 margin in the frame, but it remained 1-0 San Jose after the first period.

The game evened out in the second period, as the Sharks did a better job preventing quality opportunities and managed to generate more chances for themselves. Erik Karlsson extended the Sharks’ lead later in the period, blasting a point shot through traffic, as San Jose took a two-goal lead into the third period.

The Sharks took their foot off the gas a little bit in the third period and Dallas managed to pull the game within a goal, as Michael Raffl tipped in Jani Hakanpaa’s point shot. That’s as close as the Stars came though, as the Sharks managed to hold on for the win.

The Sharks probably weren’t the better team in this one, being outshot 35-25. That said, a win’s a win and the team continues to fight for ground within the Pacific Division.

James Reimer was great in his return, though he may have made a bit more work for himself with some needless rebounds. That said, he stopped those too, so it didn’t end up making a difference.

It’s also worth noting that Kevin Labanc left the game in the first period with an injury and did not return. An update is yet to be provided.

San Jose’s next game comes on Tuesday, as they host the Seattle Kraken.
