The San Jose Sharks fell to the Seattle Kraken at home last night, losing 3-1.
It was a relatively even first period, despite the Sharks being outshot 11-8. It’s worth noting that play went for nearly 15 minutes without a stoppage, which I don’t know that I’ve ever seen before. Regardless, the game was scoreless after 20 minutes.
The Sharks took control in the second period and got some excellent chances to open the scoring but couldn’t manage to convert on any. Despite outshooting the Kraken by a 12-7 margin, the teams went into the second intermission without a goal.
The third period was by far the most entertaining, with the game opening up more. Former Shark Ryan Donato opened the scoring a little over six minutes into the frame, knocking the puck in off Radim Simek’s skate. The Kraken would then increase their lead later in the period, as Morgan Geekie found Brandon Tanev in front with a nice pass and Tanev beat James Reimer. The Sharks would cut the lead in half with the goalie pulled, off a goal from Logan Couture, but that’s as close as they would come and the Kraken added an empty netter in the dying seconds.
Overall, it was a pretty even game and the Sharks had a decent outing. They couldn’t bury their chances and Chris Driedger made some key saves, resulting in the loss.
Some other notes: Joel Kellman was placed on waivers and his contract has been terminated. Kellman has been with the organization since the 2019-20 season and played in a total of 38 games with the Sharks, scoring four goals and nine points. He’s expected to return to Sweden.
Kevin Labanc will have surgery to repair a dislocated shoulder. He had left early in team’s game against the Dallas Stars and is likely to be out for a while.
