CBJ— Victims of the Jersey Toss |
|
|
|
The Blue Jackets were the victims of the jersey toss by the Edmonton Oilers, in a 5-2, defeat in Rogers Place.
Pulju was the stud of the night, opening the scoring with the first two goals. His 9th came from Tyson Barrie and Leon Drasatil. The 10th had Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Connor McDavid. The fourth line combined for the next two goals. Derek Ryan’s 2nd came from Brendan Perlini. Perlini’s first of the regular season cakes from Zach Kassian and Evan Bouchard.
Columbus got off the board with Gus Nyquist’s 5th goal of the season; Cole Sillinger and Jake Bean had the assists. Justin Danforth’s second career goal got help from Zach Werenski and Sean Kuraly.
Warren Foegle closed the scoring on an empty net and got the apples from Pulju and McJesus.
Stuart Skinner came up big for the Oil, rocking a 0.947 save percentage with 36 saves. Merzi stopped 25 of 29 for a 0.862; Korpi stopped everything that came his way.
Edmonton threw their jersey in the 6th game of their losing streak, and brought it all out in the changing of their lineups and humiliation brought upon them from the fans. The team has fallen off with the loss of their star talent as they lack any depth. This team only has players in single digit goal totals away from their stars not on the top 6. Stars don’t win championships. Teams do.
Thoughts? More to come…
