Christmas maybe over, but the pandemic isn’t far from it. So much so that the league and NHLPA have agreed to bring back the taxi squad until at least the All-Star break to be able to keep going with the season. Unlike last season though, the Taxi Squad cannot be used as a cap space management tool, the league has made it so that only players who have played less than 25% of the team’s games in the NHL are eligible. Therefore, a regular who’s on an entry level contract and waiver exempt couldn’t be sent to the TS to save money.
Today the Canadiens were back at training in Brossard and they gave an update about who’s currently on the Covid protocol: Laurent Dauphin, Mike Hoffman, Artturi Lehkonen and Tyler Toffoli were already on there prior to the break, and they’ve now been joined by Jake Allen, Ben Chiarot, Jeff Petry, Joel Edmundson and Chris Wideman. Goalie coach Eric Raymond is now also on there. Needless to say, that if tomorrow’s game goes ahead, the Habs will look like an American League team (I know, it won’t be the first time this season). Cayden Primeau and Corey Schueneman have both been recalled from the Rocket and the names of Brandon Baddock, Cam Hillis, Gianni Fairbrother and Michael McNiven have been put on the TS and will make the trip to Florida with the team.
At practice, these were the lines and pairings used:
Drouin-Suzuki-Gallagher
Harvey-Pïnard-Poehling-Caufield
Belzile-Evans-Ylonen
Pezzetta-Paquette-Vejdemo
Romanov-Savard
Kulak-Clague
Schueneman-Niku
Primeau
Montembeault
As for Carey Price, Dominique Ducharme remained vague and said that he was scheduled to meet with his doctor remotely and that they would take it from there. For now, it doesn’t appear that he’ll be travelling with the team. Unless anything changes, the Canadiens will be taking on the Lightning tomorrow night at 7:00 PM on RDS and TSN2.
