It was good to get some Habs hockey back even if it was in a lost cause and the roster was decimated by both injuries and Covid. One man’s loss is another man’s gain though and that meant Rafael Harvey-Pinard and Corey Schueneman got to play their first NHL game and both made it a night to remember by getting on the scoresheet. Kale Clague also scored his first NHL goal tonight tying the game 3-3 early in the 3rd before none other than David Savard scored his first as a Hab, giving them the lead. It didn’t hold though, former Canadien Corey Perry tied it up with less than 20 seconds to go and with an extra man on the ice.

Special teams have been an area of major concern for the Habs for quite some time and it showed once more. Whether the Canadiens were on the power play or on the penalty kill, the result was the same, Tampa Bay was getting the best scoring chances. Had it not been for the very alert Montembeault, this could have been a real slaughter (as most of us expected it has to be said).

Tonight, it was Brendan Gallagher’s first game since November 29th, and he looked pretty good out there. For a guy who had to sit out for a month, he really held is own and he should have had a goal to show for his efforts, but the refs waved it off for goalie interference, which is a questionable decision to say the least, some even called it laughable. Don’t get me started about the officiating during the overtime either.

As for Alexander Romanov, he didn’t make any friends in Tampa since he kept dishing out big hits, including one that left a Bolt struggling on the ice.

Enjoy the Habs' next 2 games because those that were scheduled in Montreal at the start of January till the 10th have now all officially been postponed. Of course, this comes from the Covid situation in Quebec which would have meant that those games would have been played behind closed doors.
