As the Canadiens get ready to face the Carolina Huricanes tomorrow, 2 more players have been added to their Covid list. First Cayden Primeau, who was meant to get the start in Raleigh and Paul Byron, who was inching closer and closer to a return to play following off season hip surgery. Considering what the Canadiens’ line-up looks like right now, there’s no doubt that there would be room for him in Ducharme’s team.
Now, with both Primeau and Allen on the Covid list, chances are Samuel Montembeault will get another game tomorrow night and will be backed-up by Michael McNiven who’s currently on the team’s taxi squad.
This morning, the league and NHLPA announced a modification to the league’s Covid protocol for vaccinated individuals: isolation period is no longer 10 days, it’s now 5 days, if there is no fever and no symptoms. The player will still need to test negative and comply with legal health authorities’ guidelines though. This 5-day modification follows on from the CDC recommendation in the USA for the general public, but I can’t see this happening in Quebec as I do not believe that such a modification has been recommender by the Santé Publique. Meaning that it doesn’t change a thing for the Canadiens.
Finally, in yesterday’s obliteration of Austria by Canada, Kaiden Guhle grabbed his first point of the World Junior Championships and today, it was announced that Czechia (Jan Mysak’s team) had to forfeit its game against Finland as one of its players tested positive for Covid. That’s a second game in as many days and it will be interesting to see if the tournament manages to go ahead in the coming days.
