Preds Look To Continue Strong Play

If we would have projected the Preds to be in the position they are in at this point in the season or even considered them to go on such an extended streak that they are currently on, then the hockey world would have undoubtedly called us crazy. But wow, what a run this team has been on. They continue to find ways to win and gain much needed points at this point of the regular season. The old cliché of this team is playing for each other with each player filling their role when needed is assuredly apt for the current state of this club. Another 9/9 points on the road with a
3-0 roadtrip as the guys return to Bridgestone.

You know the tides are turning when those individuals are coming out of the woodwork to sing praises of Hynes, Poile, and the current state of affairs. I’ve never been a Hynes apologist but this gritty style has been appealing. It’s not completely dismissing the skill side of things but linking the two together that presents an enjoyable product as of late. This all goes by the wayside, of course, if Saros slips, but I am happily eating my pre-season commentary where I discussed my beliefs in Saros not being a bona fide #1 in this league. He continues to prove me wrong, and I am ecstatic about it.

COVID has hit this team intermittently, but tonight will be a major test at home with a full roster back. I have heard commentary, and I agree to some extent, that the latest victories of found the Preds achieving victories against teams that were not at full strength whether due to COVID or other injuries. Regardless of this detail, results are results and nothing is easy in this league no matter who you are playing or where.

I’ll save the Jeannot for Calder, Josi for Norris, Saros for Vezina, Hynes for Jack Adams, etc. discussions for another time as it seems the talking heads are enjoying themselves with that one.

As for me, this quick home slate will be a great test for this team. The Avs played last night in Denver so a quick start will be a must to get on this quick, talented Avs team early. To hang with the best, you have to beat the best and the Avs continue to be the Stanley Cup favorite of many. The Preds are at the top of the league and tonight will be a great example to prove that it is no midseason fluke, but rather a team finding their way under a new coach with everyone believing in the process and accepting the role they are given on any given night. Then again, it's quite easy to be optimistic when things are going well. But I remain optimistic for the potential that's there.

P.S. I caved on the Stadium Series jersey and received mine at Bridgestone earlier today. Consider me pleasantly surprised. Upon initial glance, I’m not going to lie, I absolutely hated them. But seeing them in person at the arena when they were first announced and then now having one in my possession, I think they are pretty slick. Preds will look great in them on February 26 at Nissan, hopefully the home of the soon-to-be Super Bowl Champion Titans. Let’s make it the year for Nashville, I mean Smashville. We need it! I mean . . . one can dream, right?

Until next time . . . Go Preds!
