Devils Goaltending Situation, Miles Wood Skates |
|
|
|
New Jersey Devils backup goaltender Akira Schmid has entered the COVID-19 protocol. Mackenzie Blackwood’s initial test came back inconclusive. No word as of yet on the second test.
Currently, Jon Gillies is available but Utica Comets’ Nico Daws is still recovering from an injury.
Will the Devils have two healthy goaltenders ready to go by Thursday’s game against the New York Islanders?
According to NHL.com’s Mike Morreale:
Yesterday, Islanders coach Barry Trotz and defenseman Ryan Pulock were placed in the NHL's COVID-19 protocol. As of now, the Devils are still scheduled to play the Islanders on Thursday at UBS Arena. Games against Montreal Canadiens (1/15) and Toronto Maple Leafs (1/17) have been postponed.
Miles Wood Injury Update
Good news: Miles Wood got to skate by himself and will start his rehab next week after having surgery two months ago on his hip.
Bad news: Wood is still months away from recovering from the injury. It will take some time.
