The Philadelphia Flyers are winless in their last six games (0-4-2) after dropping a 3-2 decision to the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Thursday night. The Flyers remain winless in the 2022 calendar year to date. The Bruins, in the second game of a seven-game homestand, have won each of their last four games. Boston is 7-1-0 in January and the team has won eight of its last 11 games.

The Flyers were widely outplayed in the first 10 minutes of the game and generated only a single high-quality scoring chance in going to the first intermission trailing, 2-0. Philadelphia battled back for two goals to tie the game before Boston went ahead to stay. David Pastrnak tallied a hat trick to represent all of the goal-scoring for the Bruins.

Special teams ultimately decided the game, Boston went 2-for-4 on the power play, including a 5-on-3 goal that broke a 2-2 deadlock in the second period. The Flyers went 1-for-4 but failed on a lengthy 5-on-3 with a chance to tie the game in the third period.

Pastrnak (14th and 15th goals of the season) tallied even-strength and power play goals to stake Boston to a 2-0 lead in the first period. The Flyers tied the game in the second period on goals by Cam Atkinson (PPG, 15th) and Joel Farabee (11th) before Pastrnak (16th) completed a hat trick on a 5-on-3 power play goal. The third period had numerous scoring chances but no further scoring.

Carter Hart deserved a better fate. He had no little chance of stopping any of Pastrnak's goals and stepped up multiple times to keep the game with reach. Overall, Hart stopped 33 of 36 shots in a losing cause.

Playing his first game of the season after undergoing hip surgery, Tuukka Rask denied 25 of 27 Flyers shots to earn the win for the Bruins. He wasn't tested in the first period but came up with some huge stops later on. Rask's two biggest saves were on breakaways by Farabee and by Atkinson (shorthanded with a chance to re-tie the game right after Pastrnak's 5-on-3 goal put the Bruins ahead again).

This game was a homecoming for Kevin Hayes, who had a lot of family (including his sister-in-law and two-year-old nephew Beau) in attendance at the game. Beau was with the Flyers during the morning skate and was fussed over by the players in the dressing room. Hayes said after the game that it meant a lot to him. He also thanked the Bruins organization and the people of Boston for the kindness and compassion they've shown to his family since the tragic death of Kevin's older brother Jimmy.
