Different Story With The Same Result; MacKinnon & Makar Heading To Vegas

The storyline was different but the result was the same for the Colorado Avalanche's 4-3 SO win over the Arizona Coyotes on Friday night.

Colorado grabbed a quick 2-0 lead on goals from Mikko Rantanen and Tyson Jost. It felt like the beginning of a long night for the 'Yotes. That simply was not the case.

Arizona rattled off the next three goals to grab a 3-2 lead early in the third period. Moments later Andre Burakovsky scored a beauty of a goal to even the score in what turned out to be a wild first few minutes of the final frame.

And when five minutes of 3-on-3 couldn't settle the game, Pavel Francouz and Nazem Kadri made sure the 'Avs went home with two points.

Kadri scored the only shootout goal, which came in the third round and Francouz made 23 stops to keep the train rolling.

With the victory, Colorado extended its record home winning streak to 13, the longest in the NHL this season.

Since the calendar flipped over to 2022 the 'Avs have had to fight back in every game. In this game, they grabbed a multi-goal lead then fell behind before finally pulling out the win. Colorado improved to 6-0-1 in 2022 despite trailing in each and every game. That's quite a feat in today's NHL and should bode well when the games tighten up come playoff time.

Oh and one last thing, Colorado leads the entire NHL in third period comebacks with seven. NBD

...

The NHL announced the All-Star game rosters and both Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon were on the list. Makar is a no-brainer but MacKinnon is probably on the list because of his name recognition and star power.

Big Mac has 35 points in 24 games, but just six goals. And while he's averaged more than a point per game it's hard to argue that he's having a better season than Nazem Kadri.

Kadri leads the team in points with 48 (13g 35a) and is second in the NHL in assists.

Social media has been buzzing with Kadri all-star talk. What say you? Who would you rather have represent the 'Avs in Vegas?

The All-Star Game will be at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. on Feb. 5 with the skills competition taking place the day before.
