Another one goal game. Another loss for the New Jersey Devils.
The Carolina Hurricanes took a 2-0 lead in the first period, but later Devils forward Jesper Boqvist scored to make it 2-1. From that point on, the game remained in a stalemate although both teams had their opportunities.
“We had the opportunities to get back in the game and take a lead in the game in the second period and we weren't able to capitalize on some of those key offensive opportunities,” said Devils head coach Lindy Ruff.
This has been a recurring theme this season. Bad starts. Then having to play catch up from behind. The effort was there in Raleigh last night and Jon Gillies had a good game. But the Devils need to learn how to execute and bury their chances.
"We missed three breakaways," said Ruff.
And that has been identity of the New Jersey Devils in the Lindy Ruff era. Close but no cigar.
Classy Gesture By The Caniacs
Overall, it looked like a fun night at PNC Bank Arena in Raleigh as they had their throwback night. The Hurricanes also welcomed back Dougie Hamilton.
