The New Jersey Devils blew a 4-2 lead to the Toronto Maple Leafs and have lost their 5th straight game.
While playing in front of a capacity crowd of 500, Devils forward Jesper Boqvist scored one goal and an assist in the losing effort. Also,
Nathan Bastian also earned his 9th goal of the season.
But the Devils handed the game to the Leafs by their porous defense that allowed four unanswered goals in the third period. Leafs forward Austin Mathews added an empty net goal to put the icing on the cake with a hat trick. Throughout the game, Mathews was left wide open with room to operate in the slot and took advantage.
And that has been the common theme about the New Jersey Devils lately. Undisciplined and inconsistent play has this young team in last place of the Metropolitan Division and 2-8-0 in the last ten games.
The Devils have a chance to get revenge tonight at the Rock as they play the Leafs again. Maybe this time around, they’ll get it right!
