Unacceptable: Devils Losing Streak Continues At Six |

What happen last night at the Prudential Center was simply unacceptable as the New Jersey Devils lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs 7-1.
"There's nothing you can get out of this game, except that it's exactly how you don't want to play," said assistant head coach Alain Nasreddine who was filling in for Devils head coach Lindy Ruff.
New Jersey showed no life throughout the game. Boos started raining down as the Devils were down early 3-0 in the first period and looked lost out on the ice. The Devils were outmatched by an elite Maple Leafs team that Lou Lamoriello helped build between 2015-2018 in which he implemented structure to one of the more storied original six teams. The Leafs were a laughingstock for years and now have become one of the NHL’s top tier teams.
From the start of the third period in the previous game in Toronto to the end of the second period last night, the Leafs outscored the Devils 10-0 during that stretch. The Devils defense has entirely collapsed and turnovers continue to plague the club.
But are the answers really just in that locker room?
No, it’s not. The answers also lie within Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald and his bosses. This losing cannot go on forever. Yes, Devils fans did get a little reprieve from the losing once the Devils came back from their extended Christmas break with a promise of a “reset”. The Devils only have seven wins since they beat the Tampa Bay Lightning on November 20th and had a winning record of 8-5-3 before the third jerseys were shortly unveiled a few days later. Is this what the Devils marketing team meant about a “new era”?
It is time that the organization hold itself accountable. Tough decisions need to be made. If they are not made, the losing will continue. Again, this would be unacceptable.
