New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes has tested positive for COVID-19 and been placed in the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol list after coming back from an impressive performance at All-Star weekend in Las Vegas.
From NHL.com "We know the gig now when the trainer comes to you during practice it's usually not a good sign," Devils assistant Alain Nasreddine said. "Losing your best player is never very good, but it's part of the game right now so we've got to deal with it, and unfortunately he won't be playing next game."
As Devils fans should know by now, anything good that happens with this team, bad luck seems to be around the corner and bites them. Hughes had a sensational all star weekend and showed off his skill and personality. Hughes won’t be playing in Ottawa tonight and will most likely miss the three game road trip.
But here is some good news: Michael McLeod has been practicing with the team and will make the road trip. He’ll most likely play against Ottawa according to Nasserdine. The Devils are going to need their faceoff specialist after getting dominated by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the previous two games.
Goaltender Nico Daws has been recalled from Utica Comets and will be joining Jon Gillies as the goalie tandem. Akira Schmid will be sent down to Utica. And Dougie Hamilton will not make the road trip as he is still recovering from his jaw injury.
Devils are on a six game losing streak. Will they be able to snap their losing ways tonight in Ottawa?
Congratulations to Brekken Scoppetto!
