Seven Heaven!
After having a hellish few weeks, the New Jersey Devils dominated and destroyed the Montreal Canadiens 7-1 as New Jersey was desperate for a road victory.
This was a game that the Devils needed after losing the night before to the Ottawa Senators. Morale had been low but the Devils kept working and finally put together a complete game.
“We had good net front presence, rebound goals, second opportunity goals, the stuff we've been talking about. I thought our defense and our motion inside the offensive zone really helped us,” Devils head coach Lindy Ruff said.
Devils defenseman Ryan Graves had a much better game and they was involved offensively that setup Michael McLeod’s two goals. Dawson Mercer finally starting to show some life as his game had flatlined as of late. Mercer, who was the first star of the game, has one goal and one assist on the night.
Goaltending was strong throughout the game and Jon Gillies looked sharp by making 30 saves on the night. The Devils special teams was 1 for 2 on the power play and killed off all three Habs power plays.
"To try to build on it and play the same way. St. Louis is a good team so we're going to have to keep building on that,” Graves said.
Beating the Habs is a start. Now rinse and repeat.
