For the first time this season, Joel Edmundson was at practice with his teammates today. Of course, he was wearing a no contact jersey, but still, he will travel with the team to Ottawa even though he wont play. Corey Schueneman is now out of the Covid protocol and practiced this morning. As for Josh Anderson, he was sporting a mighty shiner and a cut on his face, but he’s expected to be in the line-up against Ottawa tomorrow. The same cannot be said about Paul Byron however, the speedy winger suffers from an upper-body injury, he’s feeling better and receiving treatments, but there is no timetable for his return.
Much like Edmundson, Armia was also at practice in a no contact jersey, and he will not play tomorrow. As for Mathieu Perreault he took part in a full practice, but he’s re-evaluated on a day-to-day basis. Jonathan Drouin has also started skating yesterday but won’t travel to Ottawa with the team, he became a father to a boy on February 17th.
As for the netminders, Jake Allen started skating again yesterday and was also on the ice today. He’s making progress, but it doesn’t seem to be near a return for now. Meanwhile, all the team said about Carey Price is that he’s progressing off-ice and there’s no plan for him to get back on the ice in the next week. Martin St-Louis has now confirmed that Andrew Hammond will get the net Saturday night in Ottawa, which makes perfect sense as it’s his former team.
Yesterday, Pierre Lebrun reported that the Canadiens rebuild could involve a major splash on the unrestricted free agent market this summer. Perhaps, HuGo is thinking about a shift in the team’s style rather than a full rebuild then. After all, the only major piece that has been moved so far is Tyler Toffoli and while Toffoli was a good player who could score, he’s by no mean a poster boy for fast skating. Hughes has been very clear so far that he wants the Canadiens to be a speedy team, so moving him made sense from that angle.
If the Canadiens are to make a splash in free agency though, they’ll need money to do so. The only way that could allow them to sign big names would be if Carey Price and Shea Weber’s contracts came off the books. While it’s already pretty much a given that Weber will retire, there’s no indication that Price will do the same. At least that’s not what today’s update indicates, but then again, it’s not the first time that Price’s health status is somewhat mysterious.

Quant à Josh Anderson, il avait un superbe œil au beurre noir et une coupure au visage, mais il devrait être en uniforme demain. Ce n’est malheureusement pas le cas pour Paul Byron, qui souffre d’une blessure au haut du corps. Il se sent mieux et reçoit des traitements, mais il n’y a pas d’échéancier pour un retour au jeu pour l’instant.
Tout comme Edmundson, Joel Armia était également de l’entrainement mais sans contact et ne jouera pas demain. Quant à Mathieu Perreault, il a participé pleinement à la pratique, mais son état est réévalué au jour le jour. Jonathan Drouin a pour sa part recommencé à patiner hier, mais il ne sera pas du voyage à Ottawa. Par ailleurs, il est devenu papa d’un petit garçon le 17 février dernier.
En ce qui a trait aux gardiens, Jake Allen a recommencé à patiner hier et était également sur la glace aujourd’hui. Il progresse, mais ne semble pas près d’un retour au jeu pour l’instant. Pendant ce temps, tout ce que l’équipe a dit à propos de Price, c’est qu’il poursuit son travail de remise en forme hors glace et progresse, mais qu’il ne devrait pas patiner dans la prochaine semaine. Martin St-Louis a maintenant confirmé que c’est Andrew Hammond qui sera d’office samedi, ce qui fait du sens considérant que c’est un ancien Sénateur.
Hier, Pierre Lebrun a rapporté que la reconstruction du CH pourrait inclure de grosses prises sur le marché des agents libre cet été. Peut-être que finalement, HuGo a décidé d’opter pour un changement de style de l’équipe plutôt que pour une reconstruction complète alors. En effet, le seul gros morceau qui a été échangé à ce jour est Tyler Toffoli et bien qu’il soit un bon joueur qui peut marquer, il n’est pas un exemple de rapide patineur. Hughes a été très clair à l’effet qu’il veut que le CH soit une équipe rapide, l’échanger était donc logique dans ce sens.
Cependant, si les Canadiens entendent faire quelques grosses prises sur le marché des agents libres, ils auront besoin d’argent. À vie de nez, la seule façon de laquelle cela serait possible c’est si de gros noms assortis de gros contrats n’étaient plus sur les livres, comme Carey Price et Shea Weber. Il semble déjà clair que Weber ne sera pas de retour, mais il n’y a eu aucune indication en ce sens pour ce qui est de Carey Price. Du moins pas dans la mise à jour faite ce matin, cela étant dit, ce n’est pas la première fois que l’état de santé de Price est un tantinet nébuleux.
