The Anaheim Ducks dropped their third straight game tonight, coming up short against the New Jersey Devils in a shootout.

Despite Anaheim being outshot pretty badly early on, Troy Terry opened the scoring for the Ducks with a well-placed shot on a rush, using a defenseman as a screen. Anaheim gave up 15 shots in the frame but managed to escape with a lead.

The Devils tied it early in the second period though, with Tomas Tatar taking a pass and going five-hole on Anthony Stolarz. New Jersey continued to press after that and outplayed the Ducks through a lot of the period as well, but the game remained tied into the second intermission.

The Ducks came out with their best period in third frame, putting 15 shots on net and controlling a lot of the play. However, they couldn’t capitalize and as a result, the game went to overtime.

We got a fairly entertaining start to the extra frame, but the Ducks ended up coming under fire and took a penalty. That said, they did a good job keeping shots to the outside and hung on, sending the game to a shootout.

Tomas Tatar deked out Stolarz as the first shooter, and after Trevor Zegras was stopped, Jesper Bratt scored to put the Ducks in a big hole. Troy Terry had to score, but he was stopped by Nico Daws, as the Devils took the extra point.

Anthony Stolarz continues to be great for the Ducks, stopping 39 of 40 shots before the shootout. Stolarz has been great this season as long as John Gibson continues to struggle, there’s no reason Stolarz shouldn’t be taking over a chunk of the workload.

Josh Manson returned to the lineup and looked really good for the Ducks. This meant Jamie Drysdale was a healthy scratch, after playing in all of Anaheim’s games up to this point.

With the loss, the Ducks have picked up just one of six possible points on their road trip so far. Anaheim's next game comes tomorrow against the New York Islanders.
