Devils Shoot Down Ducks, Win 2-1 |

It turned out to be a goalie duel between New Jersey Devils rookie net minder Nico Daws and Anaheim Ducks goaltender Anthony Stolarz. In the end, the Devils win the game behind the shootout goals of Tomas Tatar and Jesper Bratt as Daws stopped both Travis Zegras and Troy Terry shots.
Daws had another strong showing with 33 saves and is making a serious case of being considered staying full time in New Jersey. He is 5-3-0 with 2.25 GAA, .928% save percentage in the past eight games and by far has been the most consistent goaltender for New Jersey.
“It feels really good to win it,” Daws said.
And the Devils finish their four game home stand 3-1-0 as they travel to Western Canada to play the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, and Edmonton Oilers.
Thoughts
Glad to see Ryan Graves come back after taking a shot to the inside left skate. Originally, it looked bad. Relieved that he was able to come back later to finish the game. Devils and Graves dodged a bullet.
Lindy Ruff has been on the hot seat all season. But lately, the Devils are playing well and getting good goaltending. Last night’s game allowed Ruff to pass legendary Islanders coach Al Arbour for fifth place all time for NHL games coached.
Watching Jack Hughes and his childhood friend Travis Zegras was a treat last night. They are both young with bright NHL careers ahead of them. Can’t wait to see them one day represent Team USA in the Olympics four years from now.
There have been a lot of rumors of a possible trade between the Devils and Vancouver Canucks. Could a trade happen this week on the Devils road trip?
