Mark Scheifele scored his 25th and 26th goals of the season, as he led the Winnipeg Jets to a 2-1 OT win against the Arizona Coyotes. Connor Hellebuyck was fantastic, stopping 28/29 shots. Jets pull closer and closer to a playoff spot.
In the first period of the game, Mark Scheifele happened to be in the right spot at the right time, as Ville Heinola finds Paul Stastny, who takes a shot on goal, that ends up bouncing off of Scheifele and in. Not the prettiest goal, but they all count.
Heinola looked fantastic in this game. He was arguably the Jets best defenseman offensively, and was still quite sound defensively. Leading the play up the ice, making smart moves with the puck, and looked like he belonged on the ice.
After an early goal in the 3rd period by Nick Ritchie, the game was tied 1-1. It was a pretty boring game on the scoresheet, but both teams had some great chances, and both goalies looked great. Once it got to overtime, the Wheeler-Scheifele-Morrissey unit went out after the first unit, and Wheeler gets in a puck battle along the boards and wins, finding Scheifele who scores a very nice goal to finish the game off.
There is not much to complain about for either team in this game. Arizona, who has been on a tear lately, and the Jets, fighting for playoffs, played a very evenly matched game. I would like to see this effort from the Jets for the rest of the 16 games left in the season. This is the play that gets you in the playoffs. It was good to see Harkins available to play after leaving last match with an injury, and though I have liked Adam Brooks so far in Winnipeg, he is definitely the guy who has to come out.
About a week ago, I said that Svechnikov seemed like the odd man out once Perfetti came back, and to my original point, some of you have started to convince me otherwise, but nobody more than Svechnikov himself. He looked great tonight, and though he still looks better with elite talent like Connor and Dubois beside him (becuase duh... who wouldn't?) I have been focusing a lot more on watching him in the bottom-six. He does look good. He doesn't do as well, but he doesn't look out of place as I thought. Slotted in on the 4th line, he was able to change his game up and be more defensive focused. I do really like the combination of Harkins-Toninato-x on the 4th line, as they are a usable line, in any situation. They are proving that they can sustain offensive pressure in deep, just to kill time before changing, or play responsibly defensively, which they are very good at.
There isn't much else to talk about for this game, so if you have any questions, leave them down below, and I will get to as many as I can.
I will also ask again, if you have any suggestions, or ideas on article topics you would like to see during the off-season, leave them in the comments as well, as I will be beginning planning some of these very shortly. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
