The Los Angeles Kings announced yesterday that defenseman Drew Doughty will not return this season, after undergoing wrist surgery.
Doughty hasn’t played since March 7 but scored seven goals and 31 points in just 39 games. It’s a major blow for the Kings, even if they’re getting other players back.
The team also announced that they’ve signed forward Francesco Pinelli to a three-year entry-level contract, which kicks in next season.
Pinelli was selected by the Kings with the 42nd overall pick in last year’s NHL Draft. This season, Pinelli has scored 22 goals and 59 points in 55 games with the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers.
Pinelli is still just 19 years old and it’s important to note that the forward also has another year of CHL eligibility remaining. As a result, it’s still likely we see Pinelli back in junior next season,
