Avalanche Name Nazem Kadri As Nominee for 2021-22 King Clancy Trophy |

Before this season I had an opinion about Nazem Kadri. I had an opinion and it wasn't great but that opinion has since changed.
Having watched the evolution of Kadri this season how could I not have changed my mind? I found out that he wasn't a dirty player. I found out that there was more to him than cheap shots and suspension. I discovered a really good hockey player that helped to make the 2021-22 Colorado Avalanche become one of the best teams in recent memory.
Kadri played 71 games this season and colled 87 points (28g 59a) - a new career-high blowing away his previous mark by more than 30 points. And while he lit up the scoresheet all season it was his leadership that meant the most to his team.
As a result of his tremendous growth both on and off the ice, the 'Avs recognized Kadri by nominating him for the 2021-22 King Clancy Memorial Trophy, which is presented
"to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community."
Kadri is more than worthy of this nod and coach Jared Bednar couldn't say enough good things about his pending UFA forward.
...He's a passionate leader. He wants to win. He's a vocal guy on the ice, in the room and on the bench. I'm sure he takes all of his characteristics that we see to all of his projects outside of the game and to help grow the game." - Bednar
It's been a pleasure to watch Kadri blossom under Bednar and in that locker room. Yes, even at 31-years-old he has just blossomed.
As a result, Kadri should be rewarded handsomely when he hits the open market this summer.
It's a bit too soon to think about all that. Right now I want to enjoy this playoff run and what a new and improved Kadri will bring to the table. Hopefully, he stays on course and we see him and his mates lifting Lord Stanley two months from now.
