Longtime San Jose Sharks’ forward Patrick Marleau officially announced his retirement from the NHL today.

Marleau played 23 seasons in the NHL, spending parts of 21 of them with the Sharks. He spent time as San Jose’s captain from 2004 until 2009 and holds the NHL record for most games played, with 1779 games. Marleau also holds the Sharks' franchise record for both goals and points.


In other news, the San Jose Sharks didn’t move up or down in the NHL Draft lottery today and as a result, they’ll have the 11th overall pick in this year’s NHL Draft.

Recent first-round picks for the Sharks include William Eklund (7th overall in 2021), Ozzy Wiesblatt (31st overall in 2020) and Ryan Merkley (22nd overall in 2018). The draft will take place on July 7 and 8 in Montreal.
