The Los Angeles Kings announced yesterday that they’ve signed defenseman Jacob Moverare to a two-year contract extension. The deal carries a $762,500 cap hit.

Moverare is 23 years old and was originally drafted by the Kings in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL Draft. The defenseman spent the majority of the season with the AHL’s Ontario Reign, registering 10 points in 30 games, and also suited up for 19 games with the Kings.

Los Angeles does have a crowded defense group but Moverare is still young and the Kings aren’t quite as deep on the left side. It seems unlikely he’ll manage to earn a long-term, full-time spot in the lineup but he’ll provide organizational depth.
