I was recently out of town so am late to the show, but big news came out of Nashville Friday afternoon.

Former Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam is said to be in talks to acquire the Nashville Predators and become majority owner over the course of the next three years (subject to approvals). The Predators experienced a few scares over the years with multiple attempts to move the team elsewhere with the most recent ownership group of roughly 20 individuals keeping the team in Nashville.

More news to come as this story evolves, but it will be interesting to see what new majority ownership may bring, if anything. Many offseason polls across numerous publications have demonstrated that Preds fans would like a more open ownership group expressing their thoughts as opposed to staying in the shadows.

Governor Haslam will not be new to the sports ownership world and how it operates as his brother Jimmy owns both the Cleveland Browns of the NFL and the Columbus Crew of the MLS (Cleveland football success has been noticeably lacking but Columbus has had great success having won the MLS Cup twice as recently as 2020)–not that any of this matters.

I'm excited to learn more about this and see what's to come.

More articles and analysis to come following the Stanley Cup Final, but this news is important and, at least to me, unexpected but not unwelcomed.
