The Avalanche have very little time to make their moves. The parade is on Thursday, and just over a week later Colorado will have to have done some serious creative work to get their players under contract…. Today, I added 6 players on the Avalanche and what the VERY early word is…
On Kadri…
Kadri had a monumental season and is going to have plenty of suitors…MacKinnon’s enters his FINAL year on the best contract in all of sports…His extension will have to be handled with care and now he is a Cup champion. I don’t see any way Kadri returns to Colorado, unless its on a one year deall…and that would be foolish on Kadri if he didn’t take advantage of his stock being sky high right now..The Bruins, Kings, Canadiens and Sharks are among the early teams I have heard with interest….
On Nichushkin…
Talk about stock being high… I am told Val is Sakic’s #1 priority, but how much do you go in on this wildly inconsistent player? Montreal may get in I am told and try and drive the price up. I am told Martin St Louis is a BIG fan.
On Andre Burakovsky….
He was another KEY cog in the wheel and he loves it in Colorado.. They may be able to get him to come in on a discount..If it doesn’t get done…Dallas, Arizona and again…Montreal…
On Darcy Kuemper…
Tough call here, but he won them a Cup and especially was a factor in the final few games.. The Avs will in all likelihood re-sign him. Built there are those who, like me, believe in Pavel Francouz….ALOT. The Leafs could turn to Kuemper if he is somehow not locked up and if they move on from Campbell….I don’t see Darcy succeeding in Toronto..
On Lehkonen…
He was REALLY important to this team. He is an RFA, but they may have to go short term with him…The Avs could trade him to NJ or Chicago I have been told.
On Josh Manson…
ANOTHER OUTSTANDING deadline move by Sakic…. Manson will be hard too keep, especially since I have heard he really wants to return to Southern California…likely the Ducks.
ANd that’s just the six most important players that Colorado is dealing with…
Other UFAs include Jack Johnson (likely to re-sign for less), Cogliano (who MacKinnon and Makar are VERY likely to campaign for extending, Darren Helm whose experience was key, and Ryan Murray…who is healthy is close to a top 4 D…
That’s ALOT of work for Sakic… oh and along with MacKinnon, Erik Johnson and Bo Byron and JT Compher are also entering their final year and can start negotiating their extension in July…
