I was really dreading tomorrow. I thought the Penguins were really going to screw things up. They did not. Evgeni Malkin will be a Pittsburgh Penguin, likely for the rest of his career. This is how it should have always ended. This is a no-brainer decision from an on-ice and off-ice perspective.

It is a four-year deal and comes in at a 6.1M cap hit. Great contract for both team and player.

It is terrific news and the team can now go into tomorrow with a much clearer picture. Mistakes are easily made when things are moving quickly and options dry up on day one of free agency. They avoided it. They also avoided walking away from the best center option on the market.

The JFresh player cards were updated just tonight. Malkin is still cooking with fire.

You just don't walk away from this kind of production and find it elsewhere. He's still an elite offensive player.

Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang now combine for a 12.2M cap hit. If you said this out loud a month ago you would have been shamed. I certainly didn't think this would have been the financial conclusion for both players, but it is and it is a great thing.

Wow, what a relief.
