The Anaheim Ducks announced today that they’ve re-signed forward Isac Lundestrom to a two-year contract, which carries a $1.8 million cap hit.

Lundestrom is 22 years old and had recently filed for arbitration. In 80 games with the Ducks this past season, the center scored 16 goals and 29 points.

It’s going to be really interesting to see what the team’s plan is with Lundestrom, after the decision to sign Ryan Strome. Lundestrom could be a great fit as a third-line center going forward but with Trevor Zegras and now Strome in the mix, along with Mason McTavish potentially pushing for an NHL spot, it remains to be seen how the team handles their center depth. It’s likely McTavish would at least start on the wing if he made the team but the plan is certainly to have him play down the middle long-term, leaving the team with more centers than spots for their top-nine.

As for the contract, it’s a pretty fair deal all around. The Ducks do have a ton of cap space anyways but regardless, it should bring good value for the next two years, while Lundestrom targets a larger contract down the road.
