I have little doubt that the Islanders are going to be signing Kadri. A source in Colorado tells me the Avalanche are today acting very much like Kadri is heading to NY.
Staying this quiet for this long has Lou Lamoriello all over it. I think it is a brilliant move by Lou, and will be just ANOTHER move in a Metro Arms Race that keeps getting more and more intense. There is no division in hockey with more talent in it already, and this summer has truly amplified that.
You know the expression: “If you aren’t moving forward, you are standing still?” The Devils and Flyers are feeling that big time already…Kadri going to the Islanders will just make this situation even more amplified.
While I love bringing Kadri to an Islanders team that has had so much trouble scoring, I also feel the defense and transition game needed a major upgrade as well. The Isles success in previous years has been as a result of playin a possession game that was carefully choreographed in Barry Trotz’ system.
Those kinds of defenders are still possible to add, so I am going to hold off my complete grade on the Isles off season until we see what else Lou does here.
There will be moves made just to add Kadri to the lineup and I am curious if they are just salary dumps or if they address this need at least partially through those moves. Lamoriello can be very clever that way…and often that is why he takes his time..which is why Kadri announcements are taking their time.
Also there is what Lou has said about Kadri previously…
"He’s not afraid to give it, and what you respect the most about him is he can take it. He’s not a retaliatory type of player, but he’ll get you at the right time, and at the right place. He’s one that I wouldn’t mind going in a foxhole with.” - Lamoriello on Kadri in 2016 #Isles
