Tuch, Biondi and Hutson Cut from Team USA’s Camp |

Covid invited itself to the last World Junior Championships and it was decided to postpone the tournament which will now be held from August 9th in Alberta. With a little over a week to go before the start of the tournament, countries are getting ready for battle. Teams are currently warming up at the Gretzky Hlinka Cup in Red Deer and getting their formation ready. Last night, Team USA cut the 3 Habs prospects that were hoping to make the team: Luke Tuch, Blake Biondi and Lane Hutson.
This is very disappointing for Luke Tuch, a 2nd round Canadiens’ draft pick in 2020, at 20 years old, this was his last opportunity to take part in the famous tournament. This is the third time that Tuch fails to make Team USA and he was really hoping to make it this time, having told canadiens.com that it would mean the world to him to take part in the tournament.
As for Biondi, he’s also 20 years-old already and won’t get another chance to make it. He was a Canadiens’ 4th round pick in 2020 and just like Tuch, he has yet to be signed to an entry-level deal by the Habs who hold their rights until August 15th, 2024.
The news is less disappointing for Lane Hutson who’s only 18 years old and will get other chances to make Team USA in the future. Some are already saying that this is a big deal for the Habs’ 2nd round pick at the last draft, but I don’t think it’s time to panic just yet. Not only is Hutson still young, and at only 5’8” and 158 lbs, it won’t hurt him to gain some weight and muscle before taking part in a tournament where most players are older and bigger.

Hier soir, l’équipe américaine a retranché les 3 espoirs du CH qui prenaient part à leur camp d’évaluation.
Voilà qui est très décevant pour Luke Tuch, un choix de 2e ronde des Canadiens en 2020, à 20 ans, il s’agissait de sa dernière opportunité de participer au fameux tournoi. C’est la 3e fois qu’il échoue dans sa tentative de percer l’alignement de l’équipe de l’oncle Sam et il espérait vraiment y arriver cette année, ayant dit à canadiens.com que ça signifierait beaucoup pour lui d’atteindre son but.
Quant à Biondi, il a également 20 ans et n’aura pas d’autre chance de réussir. Un choix de 4e tour du CH en 2020, et tout comme Tuch, il n’a toujours pas signé de contrat d’entrée avec les Habs qui possèdent leurs droits jusqu’au 15 août 2024.
La nouvelle est moins décevante pour Lane Hutson qui n’a que 18 ans et qui aura d’autres chances de faire l’équipe dans les années à venir. Certains essayent déjà d’en faire tout un plat comme Hutson a été un choix de 2e ronde du Tricolore au dernier repêchage, mais je ne crois vraiment pas que c’est le temps de paniquer. Non-seulement Hutson est-il jeune, mais ça ne lui fera pas de mal de prendre du poids et du muscle avant de prendre part à un tournoi ou la plupart des joueurs sont plus gros et plus vieux lui qui ne fait que 5’8’’ et 158 lbs.
