Quick Hits: August 2, 2022

1) On Monday, Hockey Canada announced the Team Canada roster for the rescheduled 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship. Flyers prospects Tyson Foerster and Elliot Desnoyers have both made the team.

The original tournament was postponed in January due to several positive COVID tests, which, under the tournament rules, caused game forfeitures (it only took one positive test on a team to result in a forfeit). The tourney was rescheduled in its entirety for Aug 9 to 20 in Edmonton.

Desnoyers was part of the Team Canada roster all along, collecting three assists in two games during the original tourney prior to the postponement. Foerster, the Flyers' 2020 first-round pick, was unable to compete for a roster spot due to a shoulder injury in November that required surgery. He has since healed and returned to the ice to play in the latter part of the 2021-22 Ontario Hockey League season.

Overall, there are four Flyers prospects involved in the tourney. Defense prospect Emil Andrae, as he did in the original tournament, will serve as captain of Team Sweden. He had one goal and one assist in two games in the original tournament. Additionally, defenseman Brian Zanetti will represent Team Switzerland. He dressed in one game during the original tourney.

2) The offseason Flyers prospect series on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com continues today with a look at incoming Phantoms rookie winger Olle Lycksell.

3) Save the Date: I received confirmation today from Flyers Alumni Association president and Flyers community development head Brad Marsh that the "Friday Night Fights" event will return this year for the first time since the pandemic. The event will be held at 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia on Oct 21. As more information becomes available -- list of the attending Flyers/NHL Alumni who will be featured speakers, ticket info, etc. -- I will post it here. As usual, all proceeds will benefit the Flyers Alumni's charitable programs such as Every Child Deserves a Bike and the 12 Days of Christmas Giving.

4) Aug. 2 Flyers Alum birthday: The late Rick "Jumbo" Lapointe was born in Victoria, British Columbia, on this day in 1955.
